2023 Field Day Event Descriptions
Parachute (PK) - Students will have the giant parachute they can do the wave (waving the parachute up and down to make a wave), there will be balls to bounce on and off the parachute and they can practice running under the parachute by having a volunteer call ONE color at a time. They will need to find an open spot once they run under the parachute.
Grasshoppers (PK-1st) - Students will line up by their classes (2 lines per class) on the same color dot. Students will hop on the grasshopper ball down and around their matching color cone back to their starting point. The next student will then bounce down and back. First time to finish wins the race. If time permits, they can race again. A volunteer can start by saying ready set go and a volunteer can determine who finishes first. If a student bounces off their grasshopper, they can get back on and keep going.
Striker Ball (PK-1st) - Students will fill the cone sections with 8 players. There will be tall orange cones where students will wait their turn once someone is out. Each player will form a circle marked by cones.1 player will position themselves between each cone to guard. The player is out if the ball is struck with an open hand, underhand with the ball going past the player guarding the cones. The next person in that line will come in for the player who was out, the person out will wait in line at the tall orange cone. The serve has to be soft and served across the court. A player is also out if they strike a ball underhand that goes over another defender’s head in the air. Also, a player is out if the ball is touched more than once. The ball should not be stopped by any player to hit the ball, it is a continuation of moving the ball from player to player, until someone is out.
Egg Relay (PK-4th) - Students will line up in their classes (2 lines per class) on the same color dot, students will walk as fast as they can while holding the wooden spoon with one hand trying to balance the wooden egg without it falling. If the egg falls, the student must pick-up the egg and start back where the egg fell. Students will go down and around their color cone back to their starting point.
Sack Race (PK-4th) - Each class will have a single file line standing behind their color lane. On the signal (when the worker says “GO!”), the first person will start jumping with 2 feet inside their team’s color sack. The student will jump all the way to the finish line and turn around the cone and go back to their start line. If there is time (and weather permitting classes can go as many turns as wanted).
Water Sponge Relay (PK-4th) - Students will form one straight line from their team/class kiddie pool (front) to the water pitcher (end). When the worker says “Go!”, the first person in each line will dip their team’s sponge into the kiddie pool (to soak up as much water as possible). Then, pass the sponge up the line from student to student (cannot skip a person in their line). The last student in line will squeeze the water out into the pitcher on the pavement (at the end of the line). That same person will run the sponge to the front of the line and begin the process over. This will continue in each line until the line fills their team’s water pitcher past the black line marked on the pitcher. The team/class that reaches past the black line first is the winner for the water sponge relay. Each class will continue until they reach their black mark on the pitcher. Dump the pitchers back into the pools at the end of the event to conserve the water. Each class/team will have their own kiddie pool. The class lines will be formed as indicated above.
Tug-of-War (2nd-4th) - Students are staggered down the rope (1 class on each side). Make sure teams are even. You may need to choose a student from another class to help, if needed. If a class does need another student the person in charge of the event will choose. There are cones to designate where the class will start their line. Students will not pick up the rope until given permission by the worker. When instructed to start, the objective is to pull the center of the rope past the cone on that team’s side. Students will stop pulling when the volunteer blows the whistle. All participants must stay on their feet. Students are not permitted to let go of the rope until the workers instruct the students to do so. If a student slips and falls down, please tell the student to get back up on their feet during the match.
Sprints on Track (2nd-4th) - There will be lanes marked with paint on the track in the West parking lot of the school (see Field Day Map). All boys/girls will compete by getting into their teacher’s lanes. Even the lanes up. A starter will start the race by getting kids lined up and ready to compete. The starter will say ready set go while dropping their hand to signal the start. Students will be allowed to race more than once. Have the girls line up in the first part of the line (girls vs. girls) and the boys in the second part of the line (boys vs. boys). Have a volunteer at the marked finish line to determine who crosses first.
Water Balloon Toss (3rd & 4th) - Each grade level will participate one class at a time (each class is a heat). Each student will partner up with another student in their class. A student may need to select a partner from another class if someone does not have a partner. One partner will stay on the start line and their partner will be one line away. On the word “toss” the start line partner will toss the water balloon to his/her partner. If the water balloon is caught AND not broken that partner will back up to the next line. On the word “toss” the water balloon will be tossed back to the partner standing on the start line. Partner teams are out if their water balloon breaks OR is dropped. There are no second chances or replacement water balloons. The Water Balloon Toss continues until one group of partners has made the furthest without being eliminated. Have the teachers help partner kids up if any students need help.
Nuke’em (Indors) (2nd-4th) - This will be an elimination team event (each class will get to play at least 2 games). Each class will start on opposing sides of the net (2 classes at a time, one on each side of the net). Each class will start with 2 volleyball trainers. Nook'em begins when each side will toss the ball to the other team’s side, over the net. A player is eliminated if they do not catch the throw, and if they were the closest person to where the ball hits the ground. A player is also eliminated if they hold the ball for longer than 3 seconds without throwing it OVER the net. If the throw hits the net, and does NOT go over, the thrower is eliminated. If the throw is out of bounds without a catch or touch, the thrower is eliminated. A winner is determined by the class who eliminates all of the other team’s players first. The second ball will be removed when the team (s) are down to only a few remaining players. Classes will have assigned lines up against the wall as they come into the gym.
Gaga Ball (2nd-4th) - Students will use the two outside gaga ball pits. One class will be in each gaga ball pit, once the classes finish their round (when one person is left) the next two classes will play their match. Students must hit the ball with an open hand, no hitting with a closed fist and no kicking the ball. If the ball hits someone from WAIST DOWN, then that player is out. If someone hits the ball out of the pit, then that player is out. If someone tips the ball while it is going out, then that person is out. Students will walk around the pit once they are out. If anyone walking around the pit catches the ball while they are out, then that player gets back in the game and whoever hit the ball would be out. Students must be in a ready position by standing up, squatting down, ready for the ball. Students cannot sit on their knees. If time permits, you can play more than one game for each class.
